AMD (NYSE: AMD) and the Administration of the State of São Paulo received an "IT Innovation" award for their E-Poupatempo initiative, which was nominated among hundreds of Federal, state and local Brazilian government projects.

Last October, AMD and São Paulo's State Vice-Governor launched the first E-Poupatempo center in Santo Amaro, São Paulo city, using both desktop applications and AMD Personal Internet Communicators (PIC) in the solution, a new category of affordable consumer devices designed to provide managed Internet access for people in global, high-growth markets to enhance communications, entertainment and education experiences.

The Administration of the State of São Paulo has been using information technology as a tool to promote economic and social development. Besides the enhancement of internal processes, information technology has been used to deliver faster and high-quality services to Brazilian citizens and to expand digital inclusion to the population. The most visible example is the Poupatempo (Timesaver Centers), agencies that provide services to citizens and provide Internet access and computing experience to the population, through an IT program called E-poupatempo. According to Claudia Azeredo dos Santos, Business Development Manager, AMD South America, this initiative has become a benchmark of efficiency and has served over 60 million requests, obtaining a 99% approval rating from its users.

The joint project and resulting award shared by the Brazilian government and AMD is a successful illustration of AMD's commitment to digital inclusion.
