Sites in Ecuador, Kenya and Nepal to benefit from sustainable architecture contest

Kallari Association, Ecuador.

SIDAREC, Kenya.

Nyaya Health, Nepal.

At last year’s TED conference, AMD and Architecture for Humanity (AFH) announced the largest prize in the field of architecture, the AMD Open Architecture Challenge. Its aim is to develop not one but many solutions for building sustainable, multi-purpose, low-cost technology facilities for those who need them most. Three community partners were selected to participate in the Challenge: Kallari Association, Napo Province, Ecuador; SIDAREC, Nairobi, Kenya; and Nyaya Health, Sanfe Bagar, Nepal. Each site poses a unique set of design constraints and opportunities. While the needs of each client are unique, the hurdles they face in embracing technology to offer access to education, healthcare and the global marketplace are shared by millions of people in communities all over the world.

We are happy to report that the Open Architecture Challenge has drawn over 400 design entries from architects around the world. The competition is now closed, designs are being judged, and winners will be announced later this year.
